The Terrorists Win at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport used to be really cool. You could get a taxi or a friend to drop you off on the handy service road that runs right across the front of terminals 1 and 2. It was quick and it cost nothing.
Not any more...
Apparently, this convenient and sensible arrangement was no longer available when I went to pick up my parents from the Airport today because our country is supposedly overun by terrorists. Instead, one has to drive into a short-stay pickup area, which is charged at £1 for 20 minutes and £3 for each 15 minutes thereafter. So if you, the unwitting driver, enter the pickup area and the flight you are meeting is delayed by an hour, that's £10 down the drain. Magnificent.
The drop off area is far too small for the volume of traffic the Airport handles, and gets clogged up with taxis and pedestrians with too much luggage trying to find their lift home. It is the sort of facility one would expect to find in 1970s eastern Europe, Nairobi or perhaps Pyongyang, not an international airport in England's second city.
Exactly why are millions of people have to be inconvenienced and charged like a fluoride ion? Just because some religious fucktard nut-job drove a Jeep into the front of Glasgow Airport and set himself on fire a bit? While the witless bureaucrats placed in charge of this ridiculous security theatre are cowering behind their Police cordons and closed service roads, the 'terrorists' are winning by stealing our way of life. It's enough to make me feel nostalgic about the IRA.
